It’s back-to-school time, so let’s get prepared. With a little bit of effort and planning you can assist your kids in creating an environment for learning inside your home.
Week 34
Day 1. Go through your school supplies. Make a homework station with all the supplies your children might need to complete their usual homework assignments.
Day 2. Supply their backpacks with needed items. Do they carry a lunch card or money? Anything else that they need on a daily basis. Talk with your children about assigning spaces in their backpack for the needed items. This conversation will reinforce “a place for everything” idea and they will know where to look for the items they need.
Day 3. Clean out your car. Now starts the busy season for carpools to school, sport practices and classes. Start fresh with a clean back seat and trunk, so nothing can get in the way.
Day 4. Prepare for the first-day paper onslaught. Be prepared for all those forms that you will be asked to fill out on the first day of school. Put aside some time that evening to get them done. You need to practice good work behavior as an example for your children.
Day 5. Set up a homework routine. Have a family discussion about when and where you expect homework to get done. Schedule it on your family calendar. The visual will help everyone in the family focus on the priority of starting the school year off right.
