What Do You Do with All the Extra Stuff?

When you are downsizing and moving, the biggest question is what to do with the extra stuff.

In the new book “Get Organized Today” Katie Munoz, of Moving Forward Inc. says it is likely that you will have a lot of things that you don’t need when moving to a small home. She cautions that it may not be best to go with your first thought and have a charity pick up everything.

After you have moved out, consider turning the contents of your home (what’s left, that you and family don’t want) to an estate sales company. If your situation is appropriate, they will research and price your things for a sale. Estate sales typically charge a percentage of the gross receipts.

You may also want to consider an Auction. Again, you should hire professionals to handle the auction for a percentage of the gross profit.

When you have finished selling items you no longer need, donate what is left. Donating is a generous thing do. Let your items find a new home with someone else.
