Last week the goal was to declutter your bedroom. I hope you achieved a more calm and organized space. Are you more relaxed in the space? Are you sleeping a little better. Now let’s move on to the bathroom.
Most bathrooms are small spaces, that hold a lot of stuff and require a lot of storage. It can get overwhelming if you don’t keep up with what comes into the space and what goes out. I am going to encourage you to do a lot of purging in the bathroom. Oh that sounds bad, but you know what I mean!
Day 1 – Sort through your make up and skin care products and get rid of anything that is expired. How long to keep make up? If you are now sure, check out this article from Good House Keeping for some guidelines.
Day 2 – Declutter your hair doo-dads. Give rid of the ones you never wear. These things go out of style too. This is a great time to clean the items that you keep. For a how-to guide, check out Dairy of a Hair Obsession.
Day 3 – Focus on your medications. Get rid of anything that is expired. Also, check to see if your medication should even be in the bathroom. Some medications are affected by humidity, so the bathroom is not a good place for them. The New York Times has a great article on this subject.
Use the rest of the week to tackle the storage areas. Do you have any drawers, cabinets or shelves in your bathroom? If not, evaluate whether you need some and where you could locate it. If you do have storage spaces, take one area each day to sort through it and purge what is not needed. Rearrange your items to fit in the space you have. Bulky items under the sink or on shelves over the toilet. Put small items in basket or other containers, so they can live in an orderly fashion on your vanity.
At the end of the week you should have a less chaotic space. Yeah! This is a great time to do a really deep cleaning and make your bathroom sparkle. Cleaning is not the way I usually want to celebrate my organizing efforts, but it will make great difference in your bathroom.
