Get Organized in 2012 – Week 11

Sometimes it’s the little things that make the difference. So for week 11 of the organizing challenge we will focus on your clothing accessories. Let’s move back to your bedroom and organize your wardrobe accessories.

Week 11

Day 1. Declutter and organize your belts. Only keep what fits, is in good shape and is in style. Try them on and be honest with yourself. How do you store your belts – hanging, rolled in a drawer, or some other way. Here are a few belt storage options. Some are mounted on a wall, but some are easy-peasy and just hang on your hanger rod.

Day 2. Sort and purge your handbags. If you are a “bag lady”, this can be difficult. Women consider their purse as an extension of their personality. If this is you, review your collection to see if each bag still “speaks to you” and “of you”. If they don’t, give them to someone who will love it and use it.  Storing your handbags can be a challenge because they come in all shapes and sizes. What’s the best handbag storage is up to you. Here are some options that offer hanging, boxed and pocket storage.

Day 3. Focus on your jewelry. It’s time to look at your collection. Gather everything, pair-up the earrings, detangle the necklaces. This is also a great time to clean your jewelry and examine it. Are you going to fix the broken pieces? Is some of it no longer your style? I always bag up discards and donate them to a nearby church. They have a jewelry sale twice a year, so I know that my donation is used and appreciated.

There are infinite ways to store jewelry. Check out these options, or get creative and make something to display your collect. There are lots of ideas on Pinterest.

Day 4. Are you a hat person, scarf person? How about sunglasses or reading glasses? Declutter and organize all these unusual accessories that are unique to you. A coat rack will do the trick for often used hats and scarves. You want them to be easy to grab and go. But there is always this option for hanging a collection of scarves in a closet.

Day 5. Here’s a chance to look at your shoes. This one might be difficult, if you LOVE shoes. If you do, please treat them so. Have a home of each pair. Sort and purge so you only keep the ones you love and wear. Don’t pile them on top of each other. There are as many storage options for shoes as styles of shoes. Where they live will determine your storage options – on the floor, on an upper shelf, hanging on a rod, wall or door. So many options – use what works for you.

As you may notice, most of the links in this post are from The Container Store. I love to shop  TCS for all kinds of organizing storage. If you enjoying talking and shopping “storage” visit one of their stores today. You’ll love it.

Look around your bedroom. Found homes for all your accessories? Are you excited about getting dressed tomorrow and using some of the stuff you forgot you had. Use those items that you found and want to fall in love with again.
