It’s time to open up your closet and get it organized. Getting this small space in shape can make a big difference in you life.
Day 1. Start at the top. Clear off the shelves. Examine what’s there. If it’s not clothing or shoes should it be in your closet? No, probably not. Sort items into categories of keep, toss, donate and repair.
Day 2. Focus on the floor today. Remove everything. Take this opportunity to vacuum and wipe the baseboard. What have you been storing on the floor? Make sure what you keep has a home. Do you need shoe racks or a set of drawers to hold items? You want to take advantage of this space, as best you can.
Day 3. It’s time to tackle the hanging clothes. Again, sort, purge, re-hang like items together. Decide whether you need some specially hangers to make your space work. Maybe an extra hanging rod would give you the space you need.
Day 4. Today we shop! Now that you have gone through everything in your closet purchase any storage items that you need. I always suggest to my clients that they use the same type of hangers throughout. It really makes a difference. Also have storage for your shoes (whether you place them on the floor or the shelf).
Day 5. What didn’t fit? If you don’t have space for everything you may have to be more brutal with your purge, or you may need to store your off-season clothing somewhere else.
Make your closet work for you. It will save you time and energy.
